Mino Ware: 1,300 Years of Diverse Japanese Pottery Craft

Mino Ware (Mino-yaki) is a traditional Japanese craft from Japan's largest pottery region, boasting a history of approximately 1,300 years. Its most defining characteristic is its remarkable "diversity," refusing to be bound by a single style. Throughout the ages, it has evolved by developing new techniques and designs, such as Shino, Oribe, and Ki-Seto. Each piece, including this Japanese matcha bowl, is meticulously handcrafted by artisans. This process ensures that "no two are exactly alike," offering the warmth of a one-of-a-kind item due to subtle variations in the glaze and firing. This matcha chawan bowl truly embodies the deep emotional value of Mino Ware, inheriting traditional artistry while seamlessly blending into modern life.

Buzan Kiln: Crafting the Heartwarming Japanese Matcha Bowl

"Buzan Kiln" is the exclusive brand of Kumiko Tachi, located in Toki City, Gifu Prefecture—a renowned center for Mino ware. Her work reflects the natural beauty surrounding her studio, capturing the essence of local flowers, water, and snow. A hallmark of Buzan Kiln pottery, especially evident in items like their Japanese matcha bowl, is its heartwarming texture, designed to feel comforting in the hands. Tachi intentionally creates gentle contours on the smooth porcelain surface using Itchin-sai (slip-trailing) and delicate brushwork. The subdued, pale hues are achieved through custom-blended pigments. This combination of unique hand-painted artistry and gentle warmth creates vessels, like the perfect matcha chawan bowl, that quietly "light a lamp of fortune" (Fukutou) in the user's daily life.
