Japanese Aji Stone Book End Large
Japanese Aji Stone Book End Large
Aji Stone Book End is crafted by skillfully splitting a single stone into two, creating a pair of bookends that retain the stone's natural contours. The surfaces that touch your books and shelves are expertly polished to prevent any damage, ensuring your items are protected while being beautifully displayed. The natural presence of the stone adds a striking accent to any space, making it more than just a book stand – it’s a statement piece.

The Aji Stone
Aji Stone, often referred to as "the diamond of granites," dates back 80 to 90 million years, surfacing around 20 million years ago. This remarkable stone is exclusively found in the eastern region of Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture, in the towns of Mure and Aji. Known for its fine-grained structure and unparalleled durability, Aji Stone's blueish hue interspersed with black mica gives it a unique appearance, earning it the name "Blue Granite."
A Legacy of Excellence
Aji Stone's journey began in the late Heian period, with significant developments in the stone industry occurring during the construction of Takamatsu Castle in 1588 and the Yashima Toshogu Shrine in 1814. The legacy of Aji Stone spans over 400 years, upheld by the skilled artisans of the region. These craftsmen's expertise is evident in every piece, from the initial quarrying to the final polishing.
