Discover the pinnacle of fragrance with Kyara Incense Sticks, crafted through 400 years of Japanese incense-making mastery. Featuring the rare, noble aroma of Kyara, the highest grade of agarwood, its profound scent is enriched with nutmeg, birch, and the exotic sweetness of cistus and vetiver. A mysterious gift from nature, Kyara takes nearly a century to form, once treasured by emperors and shoguns as a symbol of status. Perfect for moments of reflection, relaxation, or as a thoughtful, luxurious gift, this incense invites you to immerse yourself in timeless serenity and the sophistication of Japanese artistry.

Description

Kyara refers to the highest quality agarwood (also known as Kanankoh) produced in Vietnam, now almost extinct and highly valuable. The Agarwood becomes resinous over time due to fungal infection in decayed or dead wood of the Aquilaria tree, emitting a fine fragrance. This resinification is influenced by various natural factors, with the exact process still not fully understood, often taking nearly a century, truly a mysterious gift from nature. Historically, it was a symbol of status owned by emperors and shoguns, representing the pinnacle of precious woods.

The Art of Japanese Incense: Discovering the Way of Fragrance and Its Timeless Elegance

The Japanese incense culture is celebrated as a refined and profound art form with a history spanning over a thousand years. At its heart lies Kōdō, the "Way of Fragrance," a uniquely Japanese tradition that transcends simply smelling incense. Instead, it emphasizes the act of "listening" to fragrance, fostering a spiritual connection through scent. Within Kōdō, practices such as Monkō (appreciating the fragrance of aromatic wood) and Kumikō (distinguishing different scents) offer ways to experience the essence of incense deeply. Through these rituals, participants connect with nature and attain inner tranquility.

The world of incense encompasses various forms, including stick incense, which uses fire, and zukō, a powdered incense enjoyed without burning. Fragrances derived from natural aromatic woods are especially prized, offering a sense of elegance and profound relaxation. In modern times, incense has found its place in everyday life, enhancing moments of relaxation and serving as a gesture of hospitality for guests. The soothing presence of fragrance enriches daily living with comfort and serenity.

KITOWA: Japan's First Maison Fragrance Brand Inspired by the Essence of Nature

KITOWA is Japan's first maison fragrance brand, rooted in over 450 years of tradition in incense craftsmanship. It bridges time-honored techniques and the heritage of fragrance culture with a modern sensibility. Centered on the theme of harmony with Japan’s natural landscapes, KITOWA offers a unique range of products crafted with natural oils derived from Japanese trees such as hinoki (Japanese cypress), hiba (Japanese arborvitae), and kusunoki (camphor tree).

The brand's signature fragrances highlight the distinctive scents of locally sourced woods, including hinoki from Mie Prefecture, hiba from Aomori Prefecture, and kusunoki from Yakushima Island in Kagoshima Prefecture. Each fragrance enhances the natural essence of these woods, offering calming and restorative properties ideal for relaxation, meditation, and yoga. KITOWA’s incense sticks, in particular, stand out for their commitment to natural ingredients and their dye-free purity. Their elegant aroma blends hinoki with geranium and iris, enriched with sandalwood for added depth and sophistication.
